Reflection for Parents

Dear Parents,

Over the ❄️ winter, I noticed a trend that I would like to share with you. This is a valuable lesson for us parents(me included) and I hope you can take a moment to reflect on this topic.

As parents, (employers & trainers) we find aspects of our young stewards life or actions that are not exactly right. They forgot to make their bed, chores were not completed, they received a bad report from school, or some other offense(in our mind). Before you reprehend your child, think about where they are and what they are about to do. STOP and REFLECT:

1) give yourself time to cool down

2) how do you plan to address this issue? Face to face, phone call or text?

3) Ask yourself --where is the child and what are they about to do? Are they at school? Do they have a test today? Are they at a riding lessons and about to mount a 1000 lb animal that feels every ounce of their anxiety?

4) consider all aspects before you address the issue, and think of a resolution that could be established during the discussion.

I am not saying your child, student, or employee is innocent and doesn't need to be spoken to. What I am saying..

Be careful that you don't have a knee jerk reaction that causes a chain of events and off sets the very important conversation that you intended to have in the first place.

I have had to reflect on this, and I am learning right along with you! 💗

Thanks for listening!

Cheri Morton
