They come for the horses; to learn how to ride, yet they walk away with so much more.
Any parent will tell you that our lesson program is about more than just riding.
COMMUNICATION: I ask all my students to respond out loud when they are spoken to. Does that sound strict? Well, I like to know that they hear when I compliment their great positions or something they did well. Also, showing respect to the trainer shows they are teachable and open to learn. I also ask them to respond when I ask them to correct something. I will give them examples on how to respond; "I don't understand", "could you explain that again?", "I'll do my best", "okay","sure thing"...
Communication with peers and parents is also discussed throughout our lessons.

Effective communication is also emphasized in relation to the horse. Every action we take conveys a message to our horse. It's crucial to be conscious of our body movements.
communication is also discussed regarding the horse. Every move we make communicates something to our horse. Being aware of our bodies is so important.
FOCUS: We have 45-60 minute lessons. I encourage students to focus and keep their horses focused. This may need to be reminded several times throughout the lessons- but it teaches students how to control their thoughts, moments, and brain.
ANXIETY/FEAR: We learn about how to control our breathing. We discuss how to tell if we become disregulated during a lesson, what are the signs, and how to get back to baseline.
SERVICE: We are a strong community of service. I encourage students to help one another, encourage one another and volunteer for our therapeutic riding program. Giving to others is one of the best ways to feel good and understand true joy.
LEADERSHIP: Many of our students move ahead to teach other students.
Investing in riding lessons is worthwhile. The skills your child acquires in the arena will benefit them at home and yield significant rewards. Contact me at cheri.morton1@hotmail.com to visit our farm and discuss how we can help your child effectively learn.
